Ads Abound

Doncha just hate ads?

Sorry about having them here for a short while folks. Vegas ate me alive in terms of cash flow, so until I can get some moneys back in my accounts, we're stuck with them.

There was a day when I'd get so pissed off about them, I plotted to destroy all advertising agencies. I hated seeing them everywhere I looked. Highway billboards, littered all over the streets, on the metro, interrupting the tv shows I watched, obstructing the websites I was going to. Hell, I even tried keeping my eyes closed for three days so I wouldn't have these fucking ads pushed into my brain. I gave up that trick after I grabbed the breast of the sixty-something year old gal working behind the register as I was reaching for change. She still calls me. Nice gal, that Buela.

Be that as it may, ads don't bother me as much as they used to. Particularly internet advertising. Most sites are getting quite good at advertising only what their readers would be interested in. Take TTH for example. I can turn off the ads there on my account, but I choose not to, because the ads are actually things I'm interested in - game trials, free in-game items, beta keys. Google ads on various sites are usually pretty good too, because they use key words from the page you're viewing. Granted, that often means lots of gold selling stuff, but I've found some interesting bits there too - like 1001 different ways to prepare SPAM (this one popped up when I was reviewing my SPAM folder in gmail).

So, yeah. The ads on this site don't need to be there, and they won't be come next month, but my point being that I think I've become hardened to in-your-face advertising, and am now plump pickins as a consumer for ad agencies. Bring em on. I'll click.
